MISSION STATEMENT
Sending a "Touch of Home"

Sing For Peace is an organization committed to inspiring individuals and organizations to create and distribute Care Packages to United States troops who are overseas. We can all help our troops by sending a touch of home to boots on soil in foreign lands. This website offers valuable shopping, packing, and mailing tips. Sending a Care Package can be more difficult than it seems, but the instructions provided in this website will make the process easier and more rewarding.

For those of you who have been following Sing for Peace, please be aware that our founder has moved the program into a new phase of development. Although the website will continue to provide helpful links for everyone's benefit, we are no longer accepting units to support. This is where YOU come in. We will tutor you so that you are able to send Care Packages yourself. Please feel free to email us anytime you need help.

In the coming year, the legacy of Sing for Peace will be perpetuated in a new manner, as the book, Boot Camp and Beyond.  This helpful guide walks you through, from beginning to end, the heartbreaking experience that is having a loved one deploy. This is the culmination of many people's experiences, knowledge, and love. It is meant to hand down anything we can offer to future generations who may need the guidance which the book will try to provide.

PROJECT INCEPTION

Sing For Peace started in a quiet suburb in Houston, Texas. Inspired by the deployment of her identical twin grandsons to Iraq in 2004, our founder's vision began with a few boxes and lots of love. She spent countless hours researching what items were appropriate to send and how they should be sent. Her organization grew from one person supporting one unit to a worldwide project that has reached hundreds of thousands of military personnel. This website will provide you with all the tools you need to make and send your own Care Packages.

SUPPORTING SING FOR PEACE

We would like to thank the many individuals and companies who have donated or will donate their time, money and goods. In particular, we would like to thank MediLife of Houston, Inc. as they help support us by accepting donations on behalf of Sing For Peace. All donations go through them and are spent on materials for the troops or on postage to send it.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Sing For Peace encourages any and all to participate. In addition to sending Care Packages, help spread the word. We are asking that you share this web site and the information herein with everyone you can. You are welcome to copy and paste the following address to the website:
shopping list
on an email list. Print the shopping list and distribute it to interested parties - the hardest thing is knowing what to send. However you decide to help, get started now.

Individuals can create their own groups from work, church, a civic club, scout troop, school, youth group, or other organization. Try to send at least one small package to one serviceman or servicewoman. Share the cost and share the responsibility, but, please, do your part to support our troops. If you do not know anyone to send your Care Package to, then please choose a name and address by clicking the link below. Every Care Package MUST have the recipient's name and address on the mailing label, or it will not be delivered.

WHAT THE TROOPS FEEL

Care Package recipients say that when a box arrives, it "feels like Christmas". A clean pillowcase, piece of hard candy, or an individual-size box of cereal is a major moment for many of them.    Sing For Peace has reached countless numbers of young men and women, all of whom are fighting for the freedoms we enjoy and often take for granted. Grateful men and women continue to send heart-warming letters and emails to express their appreciation.

A WORD FROM THE FOUNDER

I know that we are all concerned about the young men and women in uniform. During this trying time, there are several things we can do to help ourselves. Music has the power to change lives for those who sing and for those who listen. So, when you are having a bad day, whistle a happy tune, hum a few bars, or sing a song. Singing is good therapy. It relieves tension and is good for the soul. Try it, you'll see what I mean. I believe that TOGETHER we can SING FOR PEACE.

Sincerely,

Margaret
