Packing Tips |
|
Remember- Think "small" and think
"portable" for the troops! Not only do the troops have limited
storage space, but it will save on your shipping costs.
|
|
Be sure to pack food in a separate
box from personal items. We don't want food to arrive tasting
like soap.
|
Send a powdered form of sports
drink or pre-sweetened Kool-Aid. The troops say it helps with
the taste of the water they have.
|
You can use smaller boxes or dividers inside a bigger box to hold
smaller items such as bags of chips, or you can use plastic
“baggies” to hold things like gum, individually wrapped candy,
suckers, LifeSavers, etc.
|
Some of these box supplies and items can be bought at places like
The Dollar Store,
Dollar General, etc.
|
Use zip lock baggies (both large
and small) and disposable Gladware Containers as the troops reuse
both baggies and containers.
|
Try to include plastic spoons or
forks if you send cereal, tuna, etc.
|
Ask your merchants if they would
donate to your packages. Ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise from
a fast food shop would be easy to divide up among several packages.
|
Include a personal note, but for
security reasons it would be best not to include your last name.
|
|
Double tape all seams with strong
packing or shipping tape. Make sure you have a strip going around
all sides. |
|
|
In the bottom left corner write a
RE-DIRECT address of another troop or write the following note:
If the person to whom this box is addressed has been redeployed,
please keep the box and share it with your unit.
|
In the upper left corner write
"Operation Military Pride" with your complete return address so they
know it is safe to open and prevent it from being tossed.
|
Send something just for fun....a
yoyo, balloons, Nerf ball or a Frisbee.
|
Let your children participate- better yet, let
the whole class join in. They have limited knowledge of what
is going on with the troops, but this will make them feel a part of
the effort overseas.
